a safe place to read
Quality Storytents run for 2-hours, morning and afternoon, all around the Crescent Valley neighbourhood. We bring our tents, blankets, lots and lots of books, and snack - rain or shine. Kids and grown-ups can read books, listen to books, write books, and borrow books when they go.
Research (2003, 2004, 2007, 2009) shows that the program helps children get better at reading, read more often, feel better about their reading, and build positive relationships in a healthy, learning environment.
a library at your door
The Bookwagon is a door to door library program that runs in Crescent Valley, Saint John. We have books for adults, teens, children and babies. You can ask us to come to your home. Or, you can stop us on the street.
Is there a book you really want? We will do our best - just let us know.
winter wagons
In 2010, we changed Bookwagon to Tuesday evenings - and then realized we needed headlights.
we know you can
We help adults in Crescent Valley in lots of ways. We help them find and join adult learning programs close to home. We drop off books to help them learn. We show them how to use the library or their computer. We help them with forms and resumes and hard-to-read stuff. Sometimes, we help them set up programs and projects so they can help each other.
Is there something we can do for you? Let's talk - we'll do our best.
neighbourhood libraries
Not everybody needs or wants a Bookwagon, but a neighbourhood library is always a great idea. One winter, QLNB helped three communities create small, volunteer-managed libraries.
we've got things to learn
Over the past decade, QLNB has been busy supporting literacy events and celebrations. We've also reached out to offer workshops and presentations across the province on family and community literacies.
We've provided full storytent orientations in several New Brunswick cities, and provided training and support for other storytent start-ups in the Greater Saint John area. We're the NB Anglophone contact for Foundations in Family Literacy Training. We make an effort to publish our research and reflections, and we are always interested in talking, sharing and learning with like-minded groups and individuals.
Our mantra: work locally, cooperate regionally, share globally. Is there something you want to connect about? Let's talk - we'll do our best.
Brought to you by Quality Learning New Brunswick, with help from the Crescent Valley Community Tenant’s Association and lots of people like you.
